Frequently asked questions

Prices & quotes

How much does a photographer cost in the Netherlands?

It depends on the type of shoot and how long it lasts. On TulipFrame, a solo or tourist photoshoot starts from €150, a couple photoshoot from €180, family photography from €250, proposal photography from €350 and wedding photography from €1,500. These are starting prices, not fixed prices: your quote depends on the photographer, duration, location, number of people and date. See our pricing page for every service, or read what a photographer costs in the Netherlands.

Why do you show "from" prices instead of fixed prices?

Because the right price depends on details we don't know until you tell us: how long you need, how many people, where, when, and whether you need extras such as a second location or fast delivery. The "from" price is the lowest you can realistically expect for that service. Your quote is based on your actual request.

Is sending a request free, and does it commit me to anything?

Yes, it is free, and no, it does not commit you. Sending a request only asks us to find a suitable photographer and get you a quote. You decide whether to book once you have seen it.

Are travel costs included?

It depends on the location and the photographer, and it is stated in your quote. Shoots in the city where the photographer works usually don't add travel costs; locations further away, such as tulip fields or a venue outside town, may. If there are travel costs, you will see them in the quote before you book.

What affects the final price?

The main factors are session length, the number of people, the number of locations, the date (weekends and the tulip season are busier), travel, and extras such as more edited photos, express delivery or commercial use of the images. Choosing a budget range on the request form helps us suggest an option that fits.

Booking & planning

How does TulipFrame work?

You send a short request with your date, city, type of shoot and budget. We match it with a photographer who works in that area and is available, the photographer's quote is sent to you, and if you are happy with it, you book. The details are on how it works.

How far in advance should I book?

As early as you can once your date is fixed. For most sessions, two to four weeks ahead is comfortable; for weekends in April and May (tulip season), summer and weddings, book several weeks or months ahead. Shorter notice is sometimes possible, so it is worth asking. More detail in how far in advance to book a photographer.

Can I book an English-speaking photographer?

Yes. English is the language we work in, and when you write to us in English we only match you with a photographer who can run the session in English. If you would like another language, mention it in your request and we will tell you honestly whether we can match it.

Can I book photography outside Amsterdam?

Yes. We take requests for cities across the Netherlands, including Rotterdam, The Hague, Utrecht, Haarlem, Delft and Leiden, as well as places like tulip fields, windmill villages and the coast. Tell us where you want the shoot, and we will look for a photographer who works in that area.

Can the photographer help choose a location?

Yes. Tell us what you have in mind — canals, the beach, a park, somewhere quiet — and your photographer can suggest spots that suit the time of day, the season and your group. Many people leave this open when they send the request.

Can I request a specific photographer?

Yes, you can name a photographer from our photographers page in your request. We will pass it on and ask them first, but we can't guarantee they are available on your date. If they are not, we will tell you and suggest another option.

Can I plan a surprise proposal through TulipFrame?

Yes. Mention in your request that it is a surprise, and we will only contact you through the details you give us. The photographer will agree the spot, a signal and their position with you in advance.

On the day

What happens if it rains?

In the Netherlands, rain is always possible, so it is worth agreeing a plan beforehand. Many photographers shoot in light rain (it can look great), and some locations have covered spots nearby. For heavy rain or storms, the rescheduling terms are agreed in your quote with the photographer, so check them before you book.

What should I wear?

Clothes you feel comfortable in, in colours that go together without matching exactly. Avoid large logos and busy patterns, bring a layer for the wind, and wear shoes you can walk in. Our guide on what to wear for a photoshoot in Amsterdam has more ideas that apply anywhere in the country.

I feel awkward in front of the camera. Is that a problem?

No, that is how most people feel. A good session is guided: the photographer gives simple directions, suggests things to do rather than poses to hold, and takes time to let you relax. You don't need any experience.

Do I need a permit for a photoshoot in public places?

For a small private session in public space — a photographer and a couple or family — you normally don't. Rules differ for large productions, drones and private venues such as museums, gardens or castles, which set their own rules and sometimes charge a fee. Your photographer will know or check the rules for the location you choose.

What if we are running late?

Let your photographer know as soon as you can. Whether the session can be extended or has to end at the agreed time depends on their schedule, and any extra time is agreed with them.

Photos & delivery

How quickly will I receive my photos?

The delivery time is stated in your quote and depends on the type of shoot and the photographer. For portrait and couple sessions, delivery within a couple of weeks is common; weddings usually take longer. If you need photos quickly — for a trip or an announcement — ask about express delivery in your request.

How many photos will I get?

It depends on the session length and the photographer, and the number of edited photos is stated in your quote. As a rough guide, a one-hour session commonly produces a few dozen edited photos. See how many photos you get from a photoshoot.

Are the photos edited?

Yes, you receive a selection of edited photos: colour, exposure and light touch-ups. Heavier retouching, such as removing objects or detailed skin retouching, is something to agree in the quote.

Who owns the photos, and can I use them commercially?

Under Dutch copyright law, the photographer normally keeps the copyright, and you get the right to use the photos for personal purposes — sharing with family, social media, printing. Commercial use, such as advertising, a company website or product packaging, needs a licence that covers it; this is agreed in the quote. For business shoots, mention how you plan to use the photos in your request.

About TulipFrame

Is TulipFrame a photographer or a platform?

TulipFrame is a matching service. We don't take photos ourselves: we find a photographer who works in the city you choose, arrange the quote, and help with the details. Your quote sets out the terms of the photography agreement: price, what is included, delivery and cancellation. Our terms and conditions, linked in the footer, explain how this works.

How are photographers chosen for my request?

We look for a photographer who works in the location you ask for, is available on your date, does the type of shoot you want and fits your budget. We tell you who they are before you book, so you can look at their work.

How do payments work?

How and when you pay — for example a deposit when you book and the remainder before or after the shoot — is set out in your quote. You don't pay anything to send a request.

How do I contact TulipFrame?

Through the request form if you want a quote, or through our contact page for anything else. We reply to every request by email, usually within one working day.

What happens to my personal data?

We use the details in your request to find a photographer and send you a quote, and share them only with the photographer(s) we propose. We don't send marketing emails without your separate consent. Our privacy policy, linked in the footer, explains exactly what we collect and how long we keep it.
