Is De Pijp and Sarphatipark good for a photoshoot?
Yes, if you want a lived-in, everyday Amsterdam look rather than postcard canals. De Pijp combines the Albert Cuypmarkt street market, brick terraces with plant-filled balconies, café corners and the small, green Sarphatipark. It suits lifestyle, branding and relaxed couple sessions. Weekday late mornings give market atmosphere; the park is calmest early or late. Sessions start from €150 through TulipFrame.
Why De Pijp and Sarphatipark works on camera
De Pijp was built in the late nineteenth century as a dense working-class district, and its long, straight streets of brick terraces give a steady rhythm that reads well in documentary-style photos. Balconies full of plants, bikes against every wall and corner cafés make it look like somewhere people actually live, which is the point for lifestyle and branding work.
The streets are narrow and the buildings tall enough to keep much of the light indirect, so the neighbourhood is forgiving at most times of day. Sarphatipark, a few minutes from the market, adds lawns, a pond and big trees without leaving the area.
The best photo spots
- 01
Albert Cuypmarkt
The long street market runs Monday to Saturday, with stalls of fruit, fabric and snacks. Great for movement and colour; expect crowds from late morning.
- 02
Sarphatipark
A small landscaped park with a pond, winding paths and a fountain monument to Samuel Sarphati. Calm and green, and an easy walk from the market.
- 03
Gerard Douplein
A small square ringed by café terraces, lively in the evening and quieter in the morning. Good for coffee-and-conversation lifestyle frames.
- 04
Eerste van der Helststraat and the side streets
Residential and café streets between the market and the park, with front steps, bikes and greenery on the balconies. Easy for walking shots without tourist crowds.

Practical notes
The market. The Albert Cuypmarkt is closed on Sundays. Traders are working: your photographer will ask before including a stall, and you should not hold up customers.
Cafés and terraces. Photographing inside a café or on its terrace needs the owner's agreement. Ordering a drink first is often the easiest way to get it.
Traffic. Streets are narrow and busy with cyclists and delivery vans. Pose on the pavement, not in the road.
Getting there. Metro 52 stops at De Pijp station, close to the market, and Museumplein is about 15 minutes' walk away. Drones are not allowed over the city.
Local tip: Market traders do not always want to be in frame; your photographer will ask. Metro 52 stops at De Pijp station.
De Pijp and Sarphatipark photoshoot: questions
Is De Pijp good for a personal branding shoot?
Yes. The market, café terraces and residential streets give natural, everyday settings that look like your own neighbourhood rather than a tourist spot. Personal branding sessions start from €250.
When is the Albert Cuypmarkt on?
Monday to Saturday; it is closed on Sundays. Weekday late mornings have plenty of atmosphere and are usually less crowded than Saturdays.
Can we combine De Pijp with a canal location?
Yes. The Magere Brug and the Reguliersgracht are each within about 15–20 minutes' walk, so a session can start on the canals and finish at the market or in the park.
