How much does a photographer cost in Zandvoort?
A beach photoshoot in Zandvoort starts from €180 through TulipFrame. Couples sessions start from €180, families from €250 and proposals from €350. Your quote depends on timing (sunset slots are popular), duration and travel from Amsterdam or Haarlem. Getting to the beach itself costs nothing beyond the train fare.
Zandvoort is the beach Amsterdam goes to. It is about half an hour by train from Amsterdam Centraal, and the station is a few minutes' walk from the sand. The coast faces west, so on clear evenings the sun sets straight into the North Sea, which is the main reason people book a shoot here.
Behind the beach, the dunes of the Nationaal Park Zuid-Kennemerland stretch north towards IJmuiden, with marram grass, sandy paths and pine woods. That gives two very different looks, open sea and sheltered dunes, within walking distance of each other.
Why photograph in Zandvoort
A west-facing beach means sunset over the water: long golden light across wet sand in summer, and sunsets as early as around 16:30 in December for off-season sessions. The beach is wide at low tide, so even on a busy day you can find empty space by walking away from the pavilions.
The dunes add texture and shelter. Grass, sand ridges and sky make simple, clean compositions that suit couples, maternity and families with children who want to run.
Best photography locations in Zandvoort

01 · Centre
Main beach and boulevard
The central beach in front of the boulevard, lined with beach pavilions. It is the easiest spot to reach from the station and has facilities, but it is also the busiest on warm days.
Best time: Sunset, especially outside July and August. Early mornings are empty all year.
Tip: Walk 10–15 minutes north or south of the pavilions for clean backgrounds without windbreaks and umbrellas.

02 · North of the centre
Zandvoort-Noord and the Kennemer dunes
North of the village, the beach backs onto the dunes of the Nationaal Park Zuid-Kennemerland. Sandy paths lead up through marram grass with views over the sea on one side and dune valleys on the other.
Best time: The last hour before sunset for backlit grass.
Tip: Stay on marked paths; the dunes are protected nature. The national park requires permission for filming and asks commercial shoots to check with the visitor centre.

03 · South of the centre
Zandvoort-Zuid beach
The beach south of the boulevard is quieter and wilder, with fewer pavilions and dunes rising steeply behind it. It feels more remote while still within reach of the village.
Best time: Sunset and blue hour.
Tip: Parts of the southern beach further along are designated naturist beach; your photographer will choose a spot away from it.

04 · Centre
Old village and Kerkplein
Behind the seafront, the old fishing-village streets around the Kerkplein have small whitewashed and brick cottages. A useful sheltered backdrop when the wind on the beach is too strong.
Best time: Any time; handy as a warm-up before heading to the beach for sunset.
Tip: Shops and terraces are busy on summer weekends.

Best time of day
Sunset is the reason to come: the coast faces west, and sunset ranges from about 22:05 in late June to about 16:30 in December. Start 60–90 minutes before sunset. Early mornings are quiet but the sun rises behind the dunes, so the beach stays in shade.
Zandvoort through the seasons
- Spring
- Cold sea wind, fresh light, very few people. April and May evenings can be beautiful but chilly; bring warm layers between shots.
- Summer
- Warm evenings and late sunsets, but crowded beaches on sunny days and busy trains and roads. Events at Circuit Zandvoort fill the town, so check the calendar.
- Autumn
- Stormy skies, dramatic surf and golden dune grass. Arguably the most photogenic season here.
- Winter
- Empty beaches and early sunsets make short afternoon sessions easy. It is cold and windy, so keep sessions short and plan warm-up breaks in a pavilion.
Weather and the rain plan
Wind is the defining factor. Even on warm days, the sea breeze moves hair, dresses and sand, and sand can get into everything. Photographers use the wind for movement and the dunes for shelter. In rain or strong wind there is no real plan B on the beach itself; the old village offers a little shelter, but rescheduling is usually better.
Getting there and around
Trains from Amsterdam Centraal reach Zandvoort aan Zee in about 30 minutes, usually with a change at Haarlem (Haarlem to Zandvoort takes about 10 minutes). The station is a few minutes' walk from the beach. By car, expect heavy traffic and full car parks on sunny weekends and event days.
Local rules and etiquette
The dunes are part of a protected national park: stay on marked paths and do not climb dune ridges outside them. Filming in the park needs permission, and commercial shoots should check current rules with the Nationaal Park Zuid-Kennemerland visitor centre. Dogs are restricted on parts of the beach in summer and in most of the park. Drone rules in this coastal area are complex; assume no drone unless your photographer confirms a legal option.
