How much does a photographer cost in Almere?

A family photoshoot in Almere starts from €250 through TulipFrame. Maternity sessions start from €250, newborn sessions from €300 and portrait or headshot sessions from €150. Your quote depends on duration, location and whether you want a session at home. Most people booking here are residents who want a session close to home rather than a trip into Amsterdam.

Almere is not a tourist destination, and we will not pretend it is. It is one of the youngest cities in the Netherlands, built from the late 1970s on land reclaimed from the sea, and home to many families and expats who commute to Amsterdam. Most people who book a photographer here live here: they want a family, maternity or portrait session close to home, not a trip into the canal crowds.

For that, Almere has more to offer than its reputation suggests. The city centre has experimental architecture around the Weerwater lake, the Almeerderstrand faces west across the IJmeer for sunsets over water, and the Oostvaardersplassen, a vast wetland reserve, is on the edge of town.

Why photograph in Almere

Almere was planned from scratch, and it shows. The city centre has buildings by international architects, including the glass Schouwburg Almere theatre by SANAA, set along the Weerwater with long open waterfront promenades. Neighbourhoods were built as experiments, so housing styles change street by street.

The real advantage is space and water. Beaches, lakes and parks are rarely crowded, and the flat, open landscape gives wide skies. For residents, that means relaxed family sessions without the logistics of central Amsterdam.

    01 · Almere Stad

    Stadshart and Schouwburg Almere

The city centre was built to a masterplan by OMA, with angular, colourful buildings, raised streets and the glass Schouwburg (theatre) by SANAA overlooking the Weerwater. Clean lines and reflections suit headshots, branding and modern portraits.

Best time: Weekday mornings or early evenings; the glass facades reflect the sky at sunset.

Tip: The shopping streets are busy on Saturdays. Some areas are private property; your photographer will keep to public space.

    02 · Almere Stad

    Weerwater and Esplanade

The lake in the middle of the city, with the Esplanade promenade on its northern shore and green banks around it. Open water and big skies in the middle of town.

Best time: Sunset from the eastern shore, looking west across the water.

Tip: Easy to combine with the Stadshart, a few minutes' walk away.

    03 · Almere Poort

    Almeerderstrand

Almere's largest beach, a long sandy shore on the IJmeer in Almere Poort. It faces west across the water towards Amsterdam, so it catches the sunset, and on clear evenings you can see the Amsterdam side on the horizon.

Best time: Golden hour and sunset.

Tip: About a 15-minute walk from Almere Poort station. Busy on hot summer days, empty the rest of the year.

04 · Between Almere and Lelystad

    Oostvaardersplassen

A large wetland reserve with reedbeds, lakes and grassland, known for wild Konik horses, red deer and birds. The De Oostvaarders nature centre on the Almere side is the gateway, with walking trails around it.

Best time: Early morning or late evening; the landscape is flat and open, so low light matters.

Tip: Many parts of the reserve are closed to visitors. Stay on marked trails and keep well away from the animals. Suits simple, landscape-led portraits rather than long styled shoots.

  5. 05 · Almere Haven

    Almere Haven harbour

Almere's first district, with a small harbour, brick quays and a village-like centre that was built to feel older than it is. It has a cosier scale than the rest of the city.

Best time: Late afternoon, and summer evenings on the quay.

Tip: A good choice for families who want a harbour look without travelling to Volendam.

Best time of day

Golden hour. Almere is flat, open and has little shade, so midday sun is harsh; the last 90 minutes before sunset work best, especially at the Almeerderstrand and Weerwater, which both have westward views over water.

Almere through the seasons

Spring
Fresh green in the parks and young animals in the Oostvaardersplassen. The bulb fields of Flevoland are a short drive east.
Summer
Long evenings for sunset sessions on the beach. The Almeerderstrand gets busy on hot days.
Autumn
Reedbeds turn golden in the Oostvaardersplassen, and the parks colour up. Good season for family sessions.
Winter
Short days and cold wind across open water. Indoor newborn and family sessions at home are the practical choice.

Weather and the rain plan

Almere is flat and surrounded by water, so wind is constant and there is little shelter outdoors. Showers pass quickly. For young children and newborns, many families choose an at-home session, which removes the weather question entirely.

Getting there and around

Trains from Amsterdam Centraal reach Almere Centrum in about 20–25 minutes, and Almere Poort in about 15–20 minutes. There are direct trains from Schiphol. The city is built around cars, with plenty of parking, and bikes; the Oostvaardersplassen is easiest by car or bike.

Local rules and etiquette

The Oostvaardersplassen is a protected nature reserve with large areas closed to the public; stay on marked trails and do not approach the horses or deer. Drone rules around the city and the reserve are strict; assume no drone unless your photographer confirms a legal option.

Photography in Almere: questions

Why book a photographer in Almere rather than Amsterdam?

If you live in Almere, you save travel time and get quiet beaches, lakes and parks instead of crowded canals. Almere suits family, maternity, newborn and portrait sessions. If you are a visitor who wants classic Dutch scenery, Amsterdam or Zaandam is a better choice.

How much does a family photoshoot in Almere cost?

Family photography starts from €250, maternity from €250 and newborn sessions from €300. Your quote depends on duration, location and whether the session is at home.

Where can we watch the sunset for photos in Almere?

The Almeerderstrand in Almere Poort faces west across the IJmeer, and the eastern shore of the Weerwater looks west across the lake. Both give sunsets over water.

Can we have a photoshoot in the Oostvaardersplassen?

Yes, on public trails near the De Oostvaarders nature centre. Large parts of the reserve are closed, and the horses and deer are wild, so keep your distance and follow the signs.

Do photographers do at-home sessions in Almere?

Many do, especially for newborn and family sessions. Mention it in your request and we will match you with someone who offers home sessions.
