How much does proposal photography cost in The Hague?
Proposal photography in The Hague starts from €350. That usually covers a photographer hiding before and during the question and a short portrait session afterwards, at one spot such as Scheveningen beach or Westbroekpark. Extra locations, a longer session or help with set-up cost more. The final quote depends on the photographer, date and plan.
The Hague is the only big Dutch city where you can choose between a proposal in a rose garden, on a quiet 18th-century avenue or on the beach at sunset, all within a 15-minute tram ride. That range is why couples who want the sea in the background, rather than a canal, often look here.
Tell us where you are thinking of asking and roughly when. We match you with a photographer who works in The Hague, who can scout a hiding spot and help you time it with the light and the crowds.
Where to ask: three different proposals
On the beach at Scheveningen. The coast faces roughly west, so the sun sets over the sea. Walk north of the pier towards the Noorderstrand or south towards the harbour, away from the boulevard terraces, and you have wide, clean sand with the pier and Kurhaus in the distance. The downside is wind, which is almost constant.
In the Westbroekpark rose garden. Tens of thousands of roses bloom from around June, peaking in early summer, with a small lake and pavilion nearby. It is sheltered, calm and very photogenic, but busy on sunny weekends. Check that the park is open at your chosen time; it is an enclosed park with opening hours.
On the Lange Voorhout. A wide avenue of old lime trees and embassies in the centre, quiet in the early morning and beautiful in autumn. A good choice if your partner would find the beach too obvious.
The area around the Binnenhof and Hofvijver is under a long renovation, with scaffolding and work zones likely to remain for years. Check its current state before planning a proposal there.
How a hidden-photographer proposal works
- You share the plan. Exact spot, time, what your partner will wear and a photo of both of you.
- The photographer arrives early and picks a position: on the beach this is usually "a tourist with a camera" further along the sand; in Westbroekpark behind the pavilion or near the lake.
- You walk in on a signal (a jacket colour, a phone message). The photographer starts shooting from a distance with a long lens so your partner doesn't notice.
- After the yes, the photographer introduces themselves and does 20–40 minutes of portraits nearby.
On the beach, sound doesn't carry, so agree the signal carefully and keep the phone on silent. It is also easy to lose each other on a wide beach; share a live location with the photographer on the day.
Timing, tides and wind
At Scheveningen, the last 45 minutes before sunset give the warmest light. In June that means a proposal around 21:15; by late September it is closer to 18:30. After sunset, the Ferris wheel on the pier lights up, a nice extra for the portraits. The pier is being renovated from 2026, so plan to photograph it from the beach rather than propose on the deck.
High tide narrows the beach, especially at spring tide, so check a tide table (Rijkswaterstaat publishes one for Scheveningen) and avoid planning a big sand message close to the waterline at high water.
Wind is the main enemy of a beach proposal: hair, dresses and the ring box lid. The dunes behind the Noorderstrand and the harbour side offer a bit more shelter. If the forecast shows strong wind or heavy rain, a backup at Westbroekpark (sheltered) or a reschedule is usually better than forcing it.
Rules, props and practicalities
- Beach set-ups. Candles, flowers and signs on the beach are generally fine if you take everything away. Fire, fireworks and anything staked into the sand are a different matter; check the current municipal rules for Scheveningen beach first.
- Drones. Much of The Hague lies in restricted airspace because of government buildings and the airport zones. Do not plan on drone footage without checking the rules and permissions.
- Beach pavilions. Some are open year-round, most from spring to autumn. A reserved table afterwards gives you a warm place for champagne.
- Getting there. Trams 1 and 9 run from the centre to Scheveningen; parking along the boulevard is paid and fills up on sunny days.
See proposal photography for what is included, and the Scheveningen beach photographer page if you want a longer session by the sea.

The Hague Proposal Photographer: questions
How much does a proposal photographer cost in The Hague?
From €350 for the proposal and a short portrait session afterwards. Longer sessions, more locations or help with decorations cost more. You get a quote for your plan.
Is Scheveningen beach a good place to propose?
Yes, if you like wide open views and a sunset over the sea. Walk away from the pier and the terraces to find quiet sand. Plan for wind and check the tide times.
When are the roses in bloom in Westbroekpark?
Usually from around June, with the fullest bloom in early summer and flowers continuing into early autumn. It varies with the weather each year.
Can we propose at the Binnenhof?
The Binnenhof is under a long renovation and parts of the Hofvijver are work zones. Check the current situation; the Lange Voorhout nearby is a quieter alternative.
What if it rains or the wind is too strong?
Agree a backup when you book: a sheltered spot such as Westbroekpark, or a new date. Your photographer will watch the forecast with you in the days before.
Can the photographer help us decorate?
Some photographers can recommend florists or help set up; it depends on who you are matched with. Mention it in your request so the quote covers it.
