How much does headshot photography cost in Amsterdam?
Headshot photography in Amsterdam starts from €150 for a short individual session, on location or in a studio, with a selection of retouched images. Studio rental, extra outfits, more retouched images or coming to your office add to the price. For teams, see company headshots. Your final quote depends on the photographer, location and number of final images.
Amsterdam headshots come in three flavours: a clean studio look, a natural-light portrait on a canal street, or a modern business backdrop in Zuidas or around the IJ. Most people want something that looks professional on LinkedIn without looking like a passport photo.
This page covers where headshots are taken in Amsterdam, how to fit a session into a working day, and what to prepare.
Choosing a backdrop
- Studio. Plain grey, white or coloured background. Consistent and weather-proof. Photographers rent daylight studios by the hour in Amsterdam.
- Zuidas. The business district around Amsterdam Zuid station, with glass towers and clean lines that read as "corporate" without a logo.
- IJ waterfront and Eye area. Modern architecture and water, reached by free ferry from Centraal.
- Canal-belt streets. Soft, blurred brick and green behind you. More personality, still professional.
- Your office. The photographer brings lights and a backdrop, or uses your meeting room windows.
For a whole team with consistent results, see company headshots.
Fitting it into a working day
A single headshot session takes 30–60 minutes, so a lunch break or an early start is realistic.
- Zuidas is a short train or metro 52 ride from Centraal or the Pijp, which suits people working in the south.
- Canal-belt sessions work before 10:00, when streets are quiet.
- Office shoots can be scheduled in a meeting room, with each person taking 10–20 minutes.
Tell the photographer what the images are for: LinkedIn, a speaker profile, a company website, press. That affects framing and crop.
Parking in central Amsterdam is slow and expensive, so if you are driving in from elsewhere in the region, a Park + Ride on the ring road plus a short tram or metro ride is usually quicker than looking for a space near a canal. For office shoots, let reception know the photographer is bringing a light stand and backdrop, and book a room with a window and at least three or four metres of depth, so the background can fall softly out of focus.
Preparing for your headshot
- Clothing. Solid colours, no fine stripes or large logos. Bring two options: one formal, one relaxed.
- Grooming. Haircut a week before, not the day before. Bring a comb and powder to reduce shine.
- Glasses. Clean them; the photographer will adjust angles to avoid reflections.
- Expression. The photographer will talk you through it. Most good headshots come after the first ten minutes.
Retouching is usually light: skin evened, stray hairs removed, not a different face. Ask how many retouched images the quote includes.
Expats, job hunters and creatives
Amsterdam has a large international workforce, and many people book a headshot soon after moving here: for a new LinkedIn profile, a job search or a company website. A few specific notes:
- Job hunting in the Netherlands. Dutch business style is relaxed. A clean, friendly headshot usually works better than a stiff corporate portrait. Photos are not normally included on Dutch CVs, but they are on LinkedIn.
- Speakers and consultants. Ask for a mix of tight headshots and wider portraits with space to crop for event posters.
- Actors and creatives. Casting headshots are simpler still: natural light, minimal retouching, a neutral background. Say so in your request so the photographer adjusts their style.
If you need more than a headshot, such as images of you working or speaking, look at personal branding photography.
Weather and light
Outdoor headshots in Amsterdam benefit from overcast days: even light and no squinting. On sunny days, photographers use open shade on the north side of buildings or a canal street.
Rain means an indoor session. A studio or your office are both reliable. Wind is the main issue at Zuidas and along the IJ, with its open spaces, so bring hairspray.
