Honeymoon Photoshoot

Just married and travelling in the Netherlands? A session for newlyweds, in travel clothes or your wedding outfits again.

What does honeymoon photoshoot cost?

A honeymoon photoshoot is a session for newlyweds travelling in the Netherlands, planned around a short trip: canals, windmills or tulip fields, often with the option of wearing your wedding outfits again. Sessions start from €180 for one hour; the final quote varies with location, duration, travel outside the city and the photographer.

A honeymoon photoshoot is for couples who have just married and are travelling. The wedding photos show the day; these show the first trip as a married couple. Many couples come to the Netherlands on a Europe honeymoon and spend two or three days in Amsterdam, with a day trip to the windmills or the tulip fields.

The practical difference from other couples sessions is that everything is planned around a short itinerary, jet lag and luggage, and many couples want the option to wear the dress and suit one more time.

Wearing your wedding outfits again

A wedding dress on a canal bridge gets attention, and that is part of the fun. Practical points:

  • Changing: you need somewhere to change and a way to carry the outfit. Changing at your hotel and walking or taking a taxi to a nearby spot is easiest.
  • Cobbles and bridges: long trains pick up dirt quickly. Bring a clip or a bustle, and accept some wear.
  • Wind: veils go horizontal on bridges and at the beach. Beautiful for one frame, hard work for an hour.
  • Timing: early morning means fewer people and less attention. See sunrise vs sunset in Amsterdam.

You can also do half the session in wedding clothes and half in travel clothes.

Honeymoon, couple, or romantic?

  • Honeymoon photoshoot: you are newly married and on a trip. The photos are partly a travel record: the city, the ring, the outfits.
  • Couple photoshoot: no occasion. Relaxed photos together.
  • Romantic photoshoot: a more intimate, cinematic mood, often at dusk.
  • Anniversary photography: for later, when you have years to mark.

If your "honeymoon" is a year after the wedding, either the honeymoon or the anniversary session works; tell us what you want the photos to say.

Fitting it into a short trip

Honeymoons are short and the first day is often lost to travel. Suggestions:

  1. Book for day two, not the day you land.
  2. Pick one area close to your hotel rather than crossing the city.
  3. Plan day trips as their own session. Windmills at Zaandam, the tulip fields in April (see the Keukenhof photoshoot guide), or Giethoorn by boat need travel time; these are booked as a windmill or tulip field session.
  4. Keep an evening free for the photos to arrive. A small preview often comes within a few days.

Planning from abroad

Most honeymoon sessions are booked by couples who have never been to the Netherlands, so we plan around that:

  • Send your hotel and dates. We match you with a photographer who works in that area, and they suggest a meeting point within easy reach, often a tram stop or a landmark you can find without data roaming.
  • Language. Sessions are in English by default. Say if you would prefer another language and we will try to match it; see English-speaking photographers in Amsterdam.
  • Transport. In Amsterdam, trams and walking cover everything; for Zaandam, Haarlem or Utrecht, trains from Amsterdam Centraal run frequently and take roughly 10–30 minutes. Giethoorn is much further, around two hours each way, and is a day in itself.
  • Payment and timing. The photographer confirms the quote and their terms before you travel, so you are not arranging anything important with a jet-lagged head.
  • Wedding outfits in luggage. If you are bringing a dress across Europe, a garment bag in the cabin and a steamer at the hotel save a lot of stress.

Weather and season

Honeymoons cluster in May–September, when evenings are long and golden hour runs late (after 21:00 in June and July). Summer also means crowds on the famous bridges; morning sessions solve that. Autumn and winter honeymooners get softer light, earlier sunsets and cosy canal-house windows, and a better chance of rain; a covered plan is part of the booking.

Honeymoon Photoshoot: questions

Can I wear my wedding dress in Amsterdam?

Yes. It attracts friendly attention. An early morning session is quieter, and you will need somewhere to change nearby.

We eloped. Is this the right service?

If you are marrying in the Netherlands, see elopement photography. If you married elsewhere and are now travelling, this is the right one.

Can we do the session on the day we arrive?

It is possible, but flights get delayed and jet lag shows. The day after is safer.

Can we go to the windmills or tulip fields?

Yes, booked as a windmill or tulip field session, which includes travel time and starts from a higher price.

What if it rains during our only free day?

Light rain can be worked around. For heavy rain, ask the photographer about moving to another time slot during your trip.
