What does vacation photography cost?
Vacation photography is coverage of a longer holiday rather than a single shoot: a photographer joins you for several hours or across two or three short sessions — a canal morning, a day trip to windmills, dinner on the last night. It starts from €150 for a short session; multi-location or multi-day coverage is quoted individually based on hours, travel, group size and dates.
A single photoshoot gives you one set of photos in one place. Vacation photography follows the shape of your trip instead: the first morning in Amsterdam, the day at the tulip fields, the boat trip, the family dinner on the last night.
It suits longer stays, group trips, and families or friends who want a proper photographic record rather than one hour of posing. We match your request with a photographer who covers the region you are travelling in and can join you where the trip goes.

How coverage is usually structured
There are three common patterns:
- Half day, several places. Four hours, one area. A canal walk in Amsterdam, lunch, then a ferry to Amsterdam-Noord or a train to Haarlem.
- Day trip with a photographer. The photographer travels with you to Zaanse Schans, Giethoorn, Volendam or the bulb region and photographs the day as it unfolds.
- Split sessions. Two or three shorter sessions on different days — the arrival stroll, a special activity, the farewell dinner.
The third option is often the best value, because you only pay for the moments you care about.
Day trips that photograph well
| Destination | From Amsterdam | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Zaanse Schans | About 17 minutes by train to Zaandijk Zaanse Schans, then a 15-minute walk | Green wooden houses and working windmills |
| Haarlem | About 15 minutes by train | Grote Markt, the Spaarne and Molen de Adriaan |
| Bulb region (Lisse, Hillegom) | About 45–60 minutes by road | Tulip fields, mid-March to early May |
| Giethoorn | Around 1.5–2 hours by car | Thatched farms and canals without roads |
| Zandvoort | About 30 minutes by train | Beach and dunes |
Journey times are typical, not guaranteed — check the NS app on the day. For windmills and flowers, see the windmill photoshoot and tulip field photoshoot.
Documentary rather than posed
Vacation photography is mostly documentary: the photographer photographs what you are doing, with occasional direction for a group photo or a portrait in good light. You carry on with your holiday; nobody has to stop at every corner and smile.
This is also why it works for groups — a family reunion, a hen weekend, a company trip — where a single posed hour would miss most of what happens.
Practical questions to settle up front
Before booking, agree:
- Transport and tickets. Who pays for the photographer's train, boat or museum ticket (usually you, and it is added to the quote).
- Meals. On a full-day booking, a break for the photographer to eat.
- Where photography is allowed. Museums, private boats and some attractions have their own rules; check them before you go.
- Delivery. One gallery for the whole trip, delivered after the last session.
Groups, reunions and celebrations
Vacation photography suits groups better than a single session does, because it follows events as they happen rather than asking fifteen people to stand still for an hour.
Common bookings include:
- Family reunions where relatives fly in from several countries, often ending with a group photo in a park or on a canal boat.
- Milestone birthdays celebrated with a weekend in Amsterdam, covering a walk, a dinner and a boat trip.
- Friends' trips and hen or stag weekends where the priority is candid photos rather than portraits.
- Honeymoons and anniversaries split between two cities; see the honeymoon photoshoot.
For groups, send the photographer a rough schedule and a list of the "must-have" photos — every cousin together, grandparents with all the grandchildren — so those are done early, while everyone is still there and still tidy.

Vacation Photography: questions
How is vacation photography different from a tourist photoshoot?
A tourist photoshoot is one session in one place. Vacation photography covers several moments or locations of a longer trip, sometimes over multiple days.
Can the photographer come on a day trip with us?
Yes. Transport and any entry tickets for the photographer are added to your quote.
Can I split the hours over different days?
Often, yes. Two or three shorter sessions are a popular way to cover a trip. Mention the dates in your request.
Do we get all the photos from the day?
You receive an edited selection, not every raw frame. The number depends on the hours; see the durations above for typical ranges.
Can you photograph inside museums?
Rules differ per museum and many restrict professional photography, so check with the venue before planning a session inside. Outdoor areas around them are usually straightforward.
